Motorcycle Accident Attorney In Louisville

Injured On A Vulnerable Vehicle?

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Highway Loss Data Institute, a total of 4,693 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2015. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has determined that motorcyclists are about 27 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a traffic crash, according to 2014 data. In addition, motorcyclists who are injured in traffic accidents are more likely than other kinds of drivers to be severely injured, as they lack the protection of the frame of a car, truck or bus. At Ewing & Willis, we are committed to providing strong representation to motorcyclists who have been injured by the negligence of others on the road.

Jack S.

Jack S. was a 54-year-old air conditioning equipment supplier who was injured while riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle away from the Harley Davidson store located next to the University of Louisville. He was stopped at a light preparing to enter I-65 when the defendant driver of a Mercury Mountaineer backed up into him, causing the bike to fall on Jack S.’s left leg, hip and knee. There was approximately $5,400 worth of damage done to the motorcycle as a result of the collision.

As a result of the crash, Jack S. was taken by EMS to the emergency room at Jewish Hospital. After his discharge, he continued to have complaints of leg and lower back pain. Jack S. underwent conservative treatment including prescription medication, epidural injections and nerve blocks. Ultimately, he was diagnosed by a neurosurgeon with two disk herniations at L4-L5 and L5-S1. About eight months after the motorcycle accident, he underwent a lumbar laminectomy performed by a neurosurgeon. After the surgery, he underwent additional physical therapy and pain management. His medical bills incurred as a result of this motorcycle crash were approximately $62,000. The case was settled for a significant six-figure amount with Geico insurance company just a few months before the trial was to begin in Jefferson County, Kentucky.
